Marcelo Paz has dismissed talk that Yuri Alberto is close to leaving Corinthians, saying there is no exit in the works and no offers on the table. According to Meu Timao, he spoke after the Copa do Brasil last 16 draw in Rio de Janeiro.
After qualification on the 14th, the striker said he wanted new challenges after the World Cup. A week later he named his father as his representative in place of André Cury. Paz said that change does not affect a contract running to July 2030.
On recruitment, Paz was cautious, citing Fernando Diniz’s strong start. Since Diniz arrived, Corinthians have been the best home side in the competition and have won six straight at Neo Química Arena. They topped their Libertadores group and advanced in the Copa do Brasil, yet sit 15th in a tight table.
A new transfer ban has been in force since last Thursday because of delayed payment to Philadelphia Union for José Martínez, signed in 2024. Paz said the matter sits with the finance team and president Osmar, and he expects the Martínez debt to be cleared before the 20 July window.
He added that agreement with Talleres regarding Garro is close and hopes it is settled soon to avoid another block. Corinthians previously served a ban from August last year to January over a debt to Santos Laguna for Félix Torres, then announced seven signings once it was lifted.
Paz said his December brief was to build without fees or major spending, a model likely to continue to help reduce debt. Corinthians host Platense at 21:30 on Wednesday at Neo Química Arena in the final Libertadores group match.
