Osmar Stabile, Corinthians president, has called an extraordinary meeting of the Deliberative Council to vote on the precautionary removal of Romeu Tuma Júnior at Parque São Jorge on Monday at 18:00.
According to Globo.com, Tuma argues the convocation breaches the club’s internal rules and says the vote will not take place.
Stabile says Tuma failed to follow council procedure last week by closing a meeting before councillors could vote on reforms to the statute. He adds that, as Tuma leads the council, he would not call a session to consider his own removal.
Stabile also alleges he was coerced by Tuma during a dinner on club premises, claiming he was met with an expletive-laden threat if he did not comply. The remark was said to have come amid a request to dismiss staff linked to Tuma’s political rivals.
Tuma denies the accusations and says he will go to the police. Last week Stabile filed a request with the club’s Ethics Commission to open an internal inquiry.
Chaired by Leonardo Pantaleão, the council’s vice-president, the Ethics and Discipline Commission will hear the parties, assess evidence and may recommend sanctions such as warnings or suspensions.
In a note, Tuma says he was not notified and that the move violates Article 82, clause II, on how extraordinary meetings must be called. He describes it as legally void and institutionally reckless, a betrayal of the statute that should not proceed.
