Corinthians ended an eight-year wait for consecutive home and away Copa Libertadores wins with a 2-0 victory over Colombia’s Independiente Santa Fe on Thursday night.

SofaScore data shows the previous sequence came in 2018, when Corinthians beat Deportivo Lara 2-0 at Neo Química Arena, then won 1-0 at the Libertadores de América in Avellaneda.

Fábio Carille was in charge then during his first spell, before departing for Al-Wehda in Saudi Arabia. After he left, Osmar Loss took over and Corinthians went out to Colo-Colo in the last 16.

Since that campaign, the club had not repeated the pattern. In this period they reached the group stage only in 2022 and 2023, winning four of 16 matches, two in each season.

Thursday’s result keeps Corinthians top of Group E on 6 points. Independiente Santa Fe are third with one. Peñarol, also on one point, face Platense, who are yet to register, on Thursday.

Corinthians return to league duty on Saturday, visiting Vitória in the 12th round of the Campeonato Brasileiro at 20:00 at the Barradão in Salvador.
