Corinthians football director explains enquiry about striker Rony

Corinthians faces Velo Clube this Sunday (25), in Rio Claro, for the fifth round of the Campeonato Paulista. Before the match, the club’s football executive Marcelo Paz gave an interview and detailed the inquiry made by Timão for striker Rony, as well as commenting on the current moment of the alvinegro team in the transfer market.

Initially, Paz was candid about the situation involving the Atlético-MG striker, which stirred up social media last Saturday (24): “He is a player everyone knows, a player who has stood out at some clubs in Brazil. During the transfer window, naturally, many names come up. There are contacts, conversations, questions, inquiries, asking how things are, if there’s a chance. So Rony’s status is this: it’s an inquiry, a conversation, nothing extremely advanced,” said the executive.

Marcelo Paz denied that there is any closed or even advanced deal by Corinthians, although he acknowledged the striker’s qualities.

“It’s nothing that is already closed, as was reported, we respect the news. He’s just a player I could say is being monitored. Of course, we know the player. He’s a player who takes part in many games per year, so he’s a player with no history of injury, involved in goals and assists, so he’s a player with his qualities.”

Finally, the executive emphasized that Corinthians monitors several names in the transfer market and that not all moves or inquiries end up becoming public in an official way.

“However, he’s in the monitored status, which is the natural period of a transfer window, a player we follow and occasionally make contact with. Some of these contacts become public, others don’t, and his name came out and generated all this buzz,” he concluded.

It’s worth remembering that, in the current transfer window, Corinthians has already officially signed center-back Gabriel Paulista, right-back Pedro Milans, and midfielder Matheus Pereira. In addition to them, striker Kaio César is expected this Monday (26) to arrive in Brazil, undergo medical exams, and become another reinforcement for Timão.
