Corinthians full-back in top 10 for minutes played outside Europe

The intense sequence of matches between the end of 2025 and the beginning of 2026 has led some athletes to accumulate a high volume of minutes on the field. Among the names that played the most during this period is Corinthians' right-back, Matheuzinho.

According to a survey released by the CIES Football Observatory, the Timão player ranks tenth among athletes who have been on the field the most outside Europe since October of last year. In total, Matheuzinho has played 5,217 minutes.

Among the ten names on the list, eight play for Brazilian football clubs. The exceptions are Colombian Rafael Carrascal, from América de Cali, who ranks fourth with 5,611 minutes, and Érik Lira, from Cruz Azul, Mexico, who is in seventh place with 5,320 minutes.

At the top of the ranking is defender Júnior Alonso, from Atlético Mineiro, with 5,903 minutes played. Right behind is Argentine Juan Pablo Freytes, from Fluminense, with 5,712 minutes, about 200 less than the leader.

The large number of matches played by Matheuzinho is also linked to the absence of a direct substitute for the right-back position at Corinthians for much of the season. Before the arrival of Pedro Milans at the beginning of this year, the number 2 practically had no replacement in the position, being substituted only in specific situations by Félix Torres.

With Matheuzinho available in the squad, Corinthians will play again only next week. On March 11, a Wednesday, the team will host Coritiba at home at 9:30 PM, in a match valid for the fourth round of the Brazilian Championship.
