Corinthians left-back Hugo Farias has undergone surgery on the lateral meniscus of his right knee after the 3-0 win over Capivariano on 5 February, with a projected return in four to six months.
The club said in a statement that he had a meniscal suture to repair a bucket-handle tear in the lateral meniscus.
Farias started that match, but before half-time he contested a ball with Mike on the left, his leg stuck in the turf and he left in clear pain. He was replaced by Matheus Bidu on 40 minutes, and days later the club confirmed the need for surgery.
The No 46 had been the back-up at left-back. His absence leaves Bidu as the only specialist in the role while the club negotiate the return of Fabrizio Angileri.
In the medical room, Kaio César is recovering from a right hamstring injury. Midfielder José Martínez has ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee and is expected to miss the rest of the season.
Without Farias, Timão host Red Bull Bragantino on Thursday at 20:00 at the Neo Química Arena in the third round of the Campeonato Brasileiro.
