Corinthians keeper hails clean sheet, eyes Copa do Brasil derby

With a goal from striker Jaqueline in the first half, Corinthians beat Santos 1 x 0 on Saturday morning, September 20, at Alfredo Schürig Stadium, Fazendinha, in a match valid for the ninth round of the first phase of the Women's Paulista Championship. The result keeps the Brabas in first place with 24 points - 23 goals scored and five conceded.

After the match, goalkeeper Kemelli gave an interview to the journalists present and talked about the fact that the team has not been scored against for the third consecutive game (Cruzeiro - Brasileirão / Juventude - Copa do Brasil / Santos - Paulistão): "Yes, we work all week for this. We say that our attack has always been, and is, very strong. Yes, you can see in the statistics that Corinthians is always the team that scores the most, that reaches the final third, that shoots a lot. So we know that, one, half the battle is already won when we don't concede a goal at the back. And we try as much as possible, yes, to work so that we can already start with this halfway without conceding a goal."

"Yes, the goalkeepers, as well as the defenders there, at the beginning of the game, we always talk and say: 'Look, today we are not going to concede a goal, not in any way'. Ju (Juliete), yes, saved it on the line (in the second half after a corner kick). So it's a joint effort, not only from the goalkeepers, but from the entire defensive part and that's it, it's half the battle and we hope to continue like this without conceding a goal", she began.

She was then asked about the rotation of the squad given the tight schedule with a high number of competitions (Copa do Brasil, Paulistão and Conmebol Libertadores). The goalkeeper emphasized the importance of those who don't play as much taking advantage of opportunities: "Our group, it is very qualified, it is a group handpicked. Each athlete who is here has enormous potential. Of course, there are some who play more, others who play less. But we always talk about taking advantage of opportunities and I believe that those who have come in, who have rotated, have taken advantage of opportunities and made their mark not only at Corinthians, but also in the championship. So, it's also important because it's a year that has five competitions now. And each year there are more games, so we need to rotate otherwise it ends up just bursting in some athletes. And that's it, we always look for a qualified squad for this, for when we need to rotate, when we need to play, when we need to come in, to make a difference."

She later commented on the atmosphere on match days at Fazendinha and projected the Majestoso classic of the quarterfinals of the Women's Copa do Brasil, against São Paulo, next Wednesday, September 24, at 6pm (Brasília time), in Santana de Parnaíba.

"Playing here (at Fazendinha) is always very good. Yes, we feel at home. Yes, the pitch is a bit dry, but much better than a synthetic one, right? We, as I said, here is our home, we feel good, it's our home we always say that we are the ones in charge. So we have to control the game, we have to go forward, regardless of what happens in the game, we will always seek victory in our home all the time."

"The Paulista for us is being the moment of, not relaxation, but of seeking that grit that sometimes lacks, correct things that in other games, maybe, we have not done so well. And we said that this game would fully prepare us for Wednesday. Classic, yes, even being leaders, we want to distance ourselves as much as we can. And Wednesday is war. We are prepared, now it's time to rest, work these, these days we have, and it's Wednesday, as the fans said, we are bloodthirsty, with a knife in our teeth, because we are going to seek this classification away from home."

She continued by commenting on the team's unbeaten run, which has not lost in 13 games - since July 15, in the decision of the Teal Rising Cup, in the United States: "We always seek victory, we always enter thinking about victory, as I said our team is very offensive. We know that at some point we are going to score a goal, we have to improve a lot in the final third, today's game showed that we can't miss these goals, especially when it's narrowing down, important games are coming, we have to kill this game, and keep winning. Corinthians has a winning spirit and we always want to win, and may it continue to win because defeat for us does not exist".

Kemelli is one of the 12 athletes from Corinthians Women with a contract ending in December. In view of this, she commented on her future at the club. In total, there are 55 matches with the Brabas' shirt and seven titles won between Brasileirão, Supercopa, Libertadores and Paulista Championship.

"Corinthians is my home. Yes, I've been here for five seasons. I feel good, especially now being able to play and who knows, let's see what Piccinato wants if he wants to stay with me, if Corinthians wants me to stay, but here will always be my home", she said.

Finally, the goalkeeper lamented the departure of midfielder Vitoria Yaya to PSG, France. According to the portal Dibradoras, the transfer took place for 150 thousand euros (R$ 937 thousand).

"It was very quick, in fact we couldn't even say goodbye to her in person, she sent a message in the group, she will be missed, she is a player with a lot of quality, indispensable, a player in the day to day also impartial there, and we wish her all the success, we cheer for her in the same way that she is cheering for us", she concluded.
