Corinthians left-back slams refereeing, comments on duo’s Brazil call-up

Corinthians visited Ferroviária early Thursday evening (13th), at Arena Fonte Luminosa, in a match valid for the 13th and penultimate round of the first phase of the Women's Paulista Championship, and ended up with a goalless draw. The result secured the Brabas at the top of the state championship with 32 points and, consequently, home advantage in the semifinals and a potential final.

Moments after the final whistle, left-back Tamires gave an interview to Record News and was questioned about the quality of the refereeing. In the middle of the second half, defender Thais Regina received a second yellow card and was sent off, resulting in many complaints from the Corinthians players and coaching staff.

“The fouls she called were indeed fouls but, in our understanding, the foul that got us a yellow card was similar to ones they committed that could also have been yellow cards for them. But anyway, it was a very balanced, very contested game”, she began.

Later, the 38-year-old athlete was asked about the call-up of five Corinthians players to the Brazilian Women's National Team for the friendlies against Norway and Portugal on November 28 and December 2. The following Brabas players were on the Amarelinha list: goalkeeper Lelê, defenders Mariza and Thais Ferreira, midfielder Duda Sampaio, and midfielder Gabi Zanotti.

Tamires celebrated the return of two teammates to represent Brazil: Lelê and Gabi Zanotti. The goalkeeper, who has been dealing with physical problems for the past two years, was called up for the first time since late 2023 – aiming for the FIFA Date in February 2024 – and the number 10, in turn, was on the Amarelinha list after almost six years, with the last time being in December 2019, when Swedish Pia Sundhage was in charge.

“I wasn't upset (about not being called up), I don't think I even expected to be called up, to be honest. I think Arthur (Elias) already has other plans, and that's fine too, I'll keep cheering for the Brazilian National Team. I'm happy because Zanotti, Lelê too, coming back, it's very important for them to be called up. The work they are doing, they deserve to be there, and that's it, keep going, working every day to represent Corinthians better and better,” she concluded.

Now, the Brabas return to the field already on the evening of this Sunday (16th). At 7:30 PM (Brasília time), Corinthians will face Realidade Jovem at Estádio Alfredo Schürig, Fazendinha, for the 14th and final round of the first phase of the Women's Paulista Championship.
