Corinthians loanee could stay at Cruzeiro in 2026

Loaned by Corinthians to Cruzeiro until the end of the current season, right-back Fagner may remain at the Minas Gerais club in the 2026 season. In theory, the 36-year-old athlete has one more year of contract with the Alvinegro. According to information from Itatiaia Esporte, the player is satisfied at Raposa and wishes to stay in Minas Gerais.

Furthermore, according to the report, Fagner left a good impression when he played and is a figure trusted by the fans and the technical staff of the Portuguese Leonardo Jardim. The right-back has not played since July 30 – the first leg of the Copa do Brasil round of 16 against CRB – due to a fibula injury in his right leg.

Another point in favor of the player's stay at Cruzeiro is the fact that his family is adapted to Belo Horizonte. His son, Henrique Lemos, who plays for Cruzeiro's Under-15 team and had a stint in Corinthians' youth system, has been a standout in the Minas Gerais team and was called up for the Brazilian national team of the category, where he won the Copa 2 de Julho and the Liga Evolução, beating Argentina in the final.

In addition to Fagner, Cruzeiro also has William (30 years old) and Kauã Moraes (19 years old) in the right-back position and still wishes to keep the athlete, understanding that he has the desired profile for the club aiming at the 2026 Conmebol Libertadores. A possible renewal will involve salary issues to be compatible with Cruzeiro's budget, as well as an agreement with Corinthians.

On the other hand, Corinthians is closely monitoring Fagner's situation, who has a high salary – half paid by Alvinegro in the loan to Cruzeiro – and became a reserve at the Parque São Jorge club in the second half of last year. As reported by Itatiaia, President Osmar Stabile intends to reduce Alvinegro's payroll, releasing athletes whose salaries do not match their on-field performance.

For Cruzeiro, Fagner has already played 21 times and provided one assist. At Corinthians, the experienced athlete has 578 games (544 as a starter) in two stints at Parque São Jorge. His first stint was in 2006, when he moved up from the youth categories, until returning in January 2014. In total, there are 271 wins, 157 draws, and 150 losses – almost 56% success rate.

Additionally, he has scored 12 goals and provided 78 assists and won five titles: Brazilian Championship (2015 and 2017) and Paulista Championship (2017, 2018, and 2019).
