Corinthians’ number 10 honoured for national team feat during break

On the evening of this Wednesday, the 10th, Corinthians returned to the field after the FIFA date to host Athletico-PR at the Neo Química Arena for the second leg of the Copa do Brasil quarterfinals. Timão, who won the first leg 1-0, played for a draw in Itaquera to advance to the semifinals, but also ended up defeating the opponent in Itaquera: 2-0, with goals scored by Garro and Gui Negão.

Before the start of the match, however, there was time for Corinthians to pay tribute to the forward Memphis, who last Sunday, the 7th, broke the scoring record for the Netherlands national team by scoring two goals in the 3-2 victory over Lithuania in the UEFA World Cup 2026 Qualifiers. The Dutchman reached 52 goals defending his country since his debut, 12 years ago.

On the sidelines, Memphis received a plaque from the hands of president Osmar Stabile, with text referencing the forward's achievement for his national team – the football executive Fabinho Soldado was also present at the ceremony. The number 10 is the second foreigner in Corinthians' history to become the top scorer for his national team, joining Guerrero, who holds the same status in Peru.

The athlete, however, became a cause for concern this Wednesday. This is because Memphis requested to leave the match at the 44th minute of the first half, after feeling discomfort in his right thigh – the area where the Dutchman was recently injured. Corinthians has not yet commented on the athlete's current physical condition.
