Corinthians pivot hails NBB win, warns of team’s inconsistency

On the night of this Monday (3rd), Corinthians returned to the court for the Novo Basquete Brasil (NBB). Playing their third consecutive round at the Wlamir Marques Gymnasium, Timão hosted Botafogo, and in a match where they controlled their opponent for almost the entire game, secured a 90 x 75 victory. With this, the team now has three wins and two losses in the NBB, currently occupying tenth place in the overall standings.

After the game, center Lucas Cauê, who scored 14 points against the team from Rio, spoke with the portal UOL, celebrating the result and his performance during the match: “A very good win. Even though our second half wasn’t as strong as the first. Getting this win at home is very important for us. And playing well feels great.”

He went on to analyze Corinthians’ recent moment, as last week the team qualified for the second phase of the South American League. “We’re living through two very... They’re very complex moments. That win against Quimsa is very important, because we know Quimsa’s level, we know the level of the South American League. We played with our backs against the wall the whole game to get that qualification,” he said.

The Corinthians player concluded by putting these victories in perspective with the defeat against Flamengo, pointing out the need for the team to be more consistent throughout the season: “At the same time, we played a bad game against Flamengo. We can’t let that happen, having such high highs and such low lows. So, I see this as a moment for us to seek consistency, whether in the South American League or the NBB. The second phase of the South American League is coming up soon, but we also have a game on Wednesday, so we can’t dwell on it too much.”

The next phase of the LSB will only be played between the 14th and 16th of this month. Before that, Corinthians will have three NBB commitments: facing Fortaleza Basquete Cearense away, Unifacisa also away, and São José at home, respectively on the upcoming 5th, 8th, and 11th.
