Corinthians return after break, train transitions for Fluminense

After being given a day off on Saturday, the Corinthians squad returned to CT Joaquim Grava on Sunday to continue preparations for the team’s next match of the season, against Fluminense, right after the end of the FIFA international break. The clash is scheduled for 9:30 p.m. (Brasília time) this Wednesday at the Maracanã.

How training went

At first, activities were carried out in the gym and, after activation and warm-up, the players went onto the pitch for a possession-focused training session. Later, Dorival Júnior conducted a transition drill centered on vertical passes followed by regaining possession.

To wrap up this morning’s activities, a ten-versus-ten match was also held, with the aim of practicing runs behind the defense. The Corinthians squad will return to CT on Monday morning for the penultimate training session before traveling to Rio de Janeiro.

Absences

Dorival was still without six players from the squad. Forward Memphis Depay is in the Netherlands to treat a strain in the anterior muscle of his right thigh. Kaio César (perifibrotic inflammation in the posterior muscle of his right thigh) and Hugo (knee surgery) are also continuing recovery from their respective injuries. Meanwhile, Gui Negão was diagnosed with a strain in the posterior muscle of his right thigh during a training session with the Brazil under-20 national team.

Finally, the coach was also without goalkeeper Hugo Souza, called up by the Brazilian national team, and midfielder André Carrillo, on duty with the Peru national team.

Situation in the standings

Timão is not going through a good spell this season and will be looking for a response for the Fiel Torcida. The black-and-white side has not won in seven matches, with two defeats and five draws, and sits 11th in the Brasileirão table with 10 points.
