Corinthians right-back Gi Fernandes has received her first call-up to the Brazil women's senior squad, with head coach Arthur Elias naming his list on Thursday morning.

According to Meu Timao, the 21-year-old joined the Parque São Jorge club in January 2024 after standout spells with Santos and Brazil's youth teams, featuring at the 2022 and 2024 Under-20 World Cups.

During the 2024 Under-20 World Cup in Colombia, she tested positive for boldenone, an anabolic derived from testosterone, and was initially sanctioned.

Four months later, FIFA withdrew the sanction after recognising strong indications of food contamination as the likely cause, with boldenone commonly used in Colombian cattle.

That absence disrupted her Corinthians start, but she became first-choice right-back and key to 2025 Brasileiro and Libertadores titles.

Her form secured a new deal to 31 December 2028 and ESPN's Bola de Prata as the 2025 Brasileirão's best right-back.

She has made 54 appearances for Corinthians, 36 as a starter, delivering nine assists and five goals, with 37 wins, 10 draws and seven defeats.

Corinthians supply the most players to the latest Brazil squad, with eight called for friendlies against Costa Rica, Venezuela and Mexico. Alongside Gi Fernandes, Lelê, Thais Ferreira, Tamires, Duda Sampaio, Ana Vitória, Gabi Zanotti and Jaqueline were selected.

The eight remain in training for Corinthians' Brasileiro Feminino opener on Friday, when they face Atlético-MG at 21:00 at Arena MRV.
