Corinthians lost 1-0 to Internacional at Neo Química Arena on Sunday in the 10th round of the Campeonato Brasileiro, extending their winless run to nine matches.
According to Meu Timao, the sequence includes draws with Portuguesa, Cruzeiro, Santos, Chapecoense and Flamengo, and defeats to Novorizontino, Coritiba and Fluminense. Their last victory came on 19 February, 1-0 against Athletico-PR in the second round of the national tournament.
It is the worst spell of Dorival Júnior’s tenure. The last comparable run was in 2007, the relegation year, when Corinthians went 10 without a win. They drew Paraná, Fluminense, São Paulo, Figueirense, Flamengo and Athletico-PR, and lost to Palmeiras, Sport, Internacional and Náutico.
Sunday’s result dropped Timão two places to 16th, on 10 points, two clear of Chapecoense, the first side in the relegation zone, who have a game in hand.
Corinthians are now without a head coach after Dorival Júnior was dismissed following the defeat. They visit Platense of Argentina at the Estádio Coliseo de Victoria at 21:30 on Thursday in the first round of the Copa Libertadores group stage.
