Corinthians start Brasileirão with 2-1 Bahia defeat and sit 15th

Corinthians opened the 2026 Brasileirão with a 2-1 defeat to Bahia at Vila Belmiro in Santos on Wednesday night, leaving them 15th after the first round.
As reported by Meu Timao, the opening round has not yet concluded, with two fixtures still to come on Thursday.
Seven sides won their openers, Chapecoense, Vitória, Fluminense, Bahia, São Paulo, Red Bull Bragantino and Athletico Paranaense, with Chapecoense leading on goal difference.
Atlético Mineiro and Palmeiras drew 2-2 at Arena MRV in Belo Horizonte, the only stalemate of the round so far.
Among the teams beaten on the opening weekend, Corinthians sit behind Grêmio and ahead of the rest on tiebreakers such as goal difference and cards. Flamengo follow, then the current relegation places are occupied by Internacional, Coritiba, Santos and Remo, all yet to register a point.
Thursday’s games are Mirassol v Vasco da Gama at 20:00 and Botafogo v Cruzeiro at 21:30, the latter at Estádio Nilton Santos.
Corinthians now have 15 days before their next league outing. Before then they face Flamengo in the Supercopa do Brasil final on Sunday, then play Capivariano in the Campeonato Paulista on Thursday five February at 20:30 at the Neo Química Arena.
