Corinthians striker set for Brasileirão debut at special Vila Belmiro

On the afternoon of this Tuesday (27th), Corinthians completed their preparations at CT Dr. Joaquim Grava for their debut in the Brazilian Championship. This Wednesday (28th), the Alvinegro will host Bahia at Vila Belmiro, at 8:00 PM (Brasília time). The club from Parque São Jorge requested that the CBF move the match forward to ensure the same amount of rest as Flamengo ahead of the Supercopa do Brasil final, which will take place next Sunday (1st), at 4:00 PM, at Mané Garrincha in Brasília.

For the match, coach Dorival Júnior is expected to have two absences: defender Cacá (physical transition after an abdominal injury) and midfielder José Martínez (still awaiting the issuance of his passport to return to Brazil). Meanwhile, forward Memphis Depay is expected to be included in the squad for the first time in 2026 after spending the first weeks of the year on physical conditioning.

In an interview with Corinthians TV, striker Yuri Alberto discussed the team's debut in the national competition and commented on playing at Vila Belmiro, the venue where he took his first steps in football, as he came up through the youth ranks at Santos. The center forward is currently the team's top scorer this season, with two goals in four matches—scored in the last two games, against Santos and Velo Clube, respectively.

“It’s a place (Vila Belmiro) where it all began, a place I really enjoy playing. Every time we go there, I’m involved in a goal or an assist. God willing, tomorrow will be the same. We’re going into the game very prepared and confident after an important away win. We know it will be a very tough match, but we also know how important it is to start well in the Brasileiro,” he said.

It’s worth remembering that last season, Yuri Alberto was the team’s top scorer with 19 goals and three assists in 58 matches, playing a decisive role in winning the Campeonato Paulista and Copa do Brasil, against Palmeiras and Vasco da Gama, respectively. In the last Brasileirão, he found the net 10 times.
