Corinthians will enforce the closure of the Lower West Stand at Neo Química Arena for the 10 May derby with São Paulo after an STJD ruling.

The club said in a statement that it will comply in that match, and that the game will remain at the Arena given the congested 2026 calendar and the impact of moving city on logistics, training and player recovery.

The Lower West holds 8,440, cutting expected attendance to about 40,000.

The STJD had initially ordered a loss of home advantage over a case of racial abuse by a Corinthians supporter towards Palmeiras goalkeeper Carlos Miguel. After an appeal, the Tribunal Pleno reduced the sanction to the one-match closure of the Lower West, the area from which the insults came.

Corinthians were also fined R$ 80,000. Goalkeeper Hugo Souza received a one-match ban for offence to the honour of the match officials under article 243-F. Right-back Matheuzinho was given two games for physical aggression against Flaco López under article 254-A.

Both suspensions will be served against Vasco da Gama. Corinthians host Vasco in the league on Sunday at 16:00 at Neo Química Arena, and the Lower West closure will not apply to that fixture.
