Corinthians win derby: Yuri Alberto bags two, Memphis scores

Corinthians and São Paulo face off again this Sunday (18th) at 4 PM (Brasília time), at Neo Química Arena, for the third round of the Paulista Championship. The match marks the reunion of the rivals after the last classic, played in the Brazilian Championship, when Timão came out on top against Tricolor.

On that occasion, Corinthians defeated São Paulo 3-1 in a match held in Itaquera. The Alvinegro was more efficient throughout the match and had a great performance by Yuri Alberto, who scored two goals, in addition to a stunning goal by Memphis Depay.

How the last Majestoso was

Playing at home, Corinthians started the classic looking to control the offensive actions. The team faced difficulties in creation but managed to open the scoring still in the first half. After a VAR review, the referee awarded a penalty to Timão, converted by Yuri Alberto, who outmaneuvered the goalkeeper and put the Alvinegro ahead.

In the second half, São Paulo equalized, but Corinthians quickly responded. Memphis Depay received the ball inside the area, got past the defense, and finished precisely, putting Timão back in the lead at Neo Química Arena.

In the final minutes, Corinthians sealed the result. Vitinho hit the post with a shot from outside the area, and on the rebound, Yuri Alberto appeared to finish with his left foot and score his second goal in the classic, closing the score at 3-1.

For the match, coach Dorival Júnior lined up Corinthians with Felipe Longo; Matheuzinho, João Pedro Tchoca, Gustavo Henrique, Fabrizio Angileri, and Matheus Bidu; José Martínez, André Carrillo, and Breno Bidon; Gui Negão and Yuri Alberto.

This Sunday, Corinthians seeks to repeat the good performance against the rival at Neo Química Arena, this time in the initial phase of the Paulista Championship, in another chapter of the Majestoso classic.
