Corinthians youngster called up for Brazil at South American U17

The goalkeeper Gustavo Milani, 16 years old, born in 2009, has been called up to defend the Brazilian Under-17 National Team in the 2026 South American Under-17 Championship. The call-up was made by coach Carlos Eduardo Patetuci for the competition that will be held from April 3 to 19 in Paraguay. The goalkeeper was the only representative from Corinthians on the final list for the continental tournament.

Considered one of the main prospects from the club's youth categories, Milani has been closely observed since an early age. Even before officially debuting for the Under-17, the young player had already participated in activities with the professional squad of Timão.

The goalkeeper also has a frequent history of call-ups to the youth national teams. He was a constant presence in the Brazilian Under-15 National Team and, on other occasions, was also included in the Under-17 team lists.

In July 2025, Milani signed his first professional contract with Corinthians. In the same season, he was among the athletes listed for the 2025 São Paulo Junior Football Cup, although he was not used during the competition.

Already in 2026, the goalkeeper started the year with prominence by playing as a starter in the Under-20's debut in the Brazilian Under-20 Championship. On that occasion, Timãozinho won 4-0 and the goalkeeper finished the match without conceding any goals.

Despite his young age, Milani has already had contact with the main squad. The player was listed for the match against Cruzeiro in the 2026 Brazilian Championship. He appeared as an option on the bench after goalkeeper Felipe Longo felt discomfort in his elbow and did not travel to Belo Horizonte. In the match, Milani was the third option for the goal, behind Hugo Souza and Kauê.

The young player will report to the National Team on March 18 to begin preparations at Granja Comary, in Teresópolis, Rio de Janeiro. The group will train there for about two weeks before traveling to Paraguay, scheduled for April 1.

The Brazilian National Team enters the tournament as the most successful in the competition's history, with 14 titles won in 20 editions. Additionally, Brazil will defend its status as the current two-time champion after lifting the trophies in 2023 and 2025. In the South American Championship, the Brazilian team is in Group B alongside the Venezuelan Under-17 National Team, Argentine Under-17 National Team, Bolivian Under-17 National Team, and Peruvian Under-17 National Team.

Besides the title race, the tournament also serves as a qualifier for the FIFA Under-17 World Cup, which will be held in Qatar. The top seven teams in the competition will secure a spot in the World Cup, which will feature 48 participating teams.
