AC Milan are building some nice momentum in the season finale, as they won their fourth game out of five last night against Genoa.
This morning’s edition of Corriere della Sera (via MilanNews) reports that Sergio Conceiçao seems to have really ‘found the right path’. Milan have won three games in a row – something they hadn’t done previously under the current coach – and the most recent came via the familiar method of a comeback.
After Vitinha’s opener for Genoa, Rafael Leao and an own-goal by Frendrup inside two minutes turned the game on its head. Mike Maignan was also decisive, making two brilliant saves to deny Norton-Cuffy and to prevent an own-goal by Christian Pulisic.
The victory is especially good for Milan’s morale in view of the Coppa Italia final scheduled for May 14 in Rome against Bologna, which is the only target left for the team at the end of this season.
Last night, when down a goal, the Rossoneri needed only two minutes to come back from behind against Genoa: first there was the equaliser by Leao, who started from the bench and then came on during the first half to replace the injured Fofana, and then his cut-back forced the OG.
It was certainly not Milan’s best performance even in recent times, so against Bologna they will certainly need more, but yesterday in the end it was almost a training session for Conceiçao’s team in view of next week’s game.
Milan are still ninth in the standings and no longer have any big aims in Serie A. They can aim to overtake Fiorentina and finish eighth though, thus avoiding playing the Coppa Italia in August.

The Rossoneri coach said he was satisfied with what he saw on the pitch, speaking after the game: “We always try to improve. We work on an individual and sector level. We work a lot. We started the match with a usual game system but we finished the match in a different way.
“And nobody talks about this. The players gave a good response and this means that we have a group that believes in what we do at Milanello. I’m happy about this. Maybe I don’t show it, but inside I’m happy with the response of these guys who believe in what we do.”
Conceiçao’s fate might be sealed as we approach the final four games of a rollercoaster 2024-25 season, but he is determined to end on a high, and also to end some false media narratives about the new system being decisive.
