Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane has been linked with a sensational return to the Premier League, and recent developments suggest it could happen as soon as next summer.
Liverpool are out of the picture after splashing over £200 million to bring in Alexander Isak and Hugo Ekitike. Manchester City are also ruled out, with Erling Braut Haaland leading the line.
Since Kane doesn’t fit into Chelsea’s recruitment strategy either, that leaves Manchester United and Arsenal as potential landing spots for the England international.
United have a long-standing interest in Kane. They wanted to lure him to Old Trafford before he moved to Bayern, but pulled the plug in favour of a £72m move for Rasmus Hojlund.
It turned out to be a colossal error, but they could get another chance to right their wrongs.
Arsenal have already spent around £55m to bring in Viktor Gyokeres, while Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz have returned from lengthy spells on the sidelines.
Meanwhile, a fairytale return to Tottenham Hotspur cannot be ruled out either, particularly with Thomas Frank’s side struggling at the top end of the pitch.
Kane has also been heavily linked with a move to Barcelona, who are on the market for a long-term successor to Robert Lewandowski.
Barca’s financial situation will make it difficult to launch a move for Kane, but the striker’s contract details could extend an olive branch.
Bayern have reiterated that they have no interest in letting Kane leave the club. However, according to The Guardian, Kane could be available for a bargain next summer.
The 32-year-old reportedly has a stunning £57m release clause in his contract, sparking intense speculation about a potential summer exit.
However, Die Rekordmeister are looking to get the drop on potential suitors by negotiating a new contract for the Englishman.
Kane’s current deal with the Bundesliga champions runs until the summer of 2027. But they’re leaving nothing to chance, even though the club hierarchy believes he’s settled in Germany.
“Harry has great confidence in us, and he feels comfortable in Munich,” said Bayern’s chief executive, Jan-Christian Dreesen.
“He and his family are settled in. Therefore, we’ve got absolutely no reason to rush.”
Despite Bayern’s confidence, a return to the Premier League could be difficult for Kane to turn down, especially after finally lifting silverware in Bavaria.
If one of United, Arsenal, or Tottenham decides to activate Kane’s release clause before he signs a new deal, Bayern will have a serious fight on their hands to keep him at the Allianz Arena.
Since joining the Bavarians, Kane has bagged 120 goals and 30 assists in 127 games for Bayern. He has already notched 35 goals in 31 games across all competitions this season.
Kane is poised to spark a bidding war this summer if Premier League clubs decide to act, so this potential transfer saga is one to keep an eye on in the coming months.
