Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, hero of Marseille’s 3-2 win over Lyon on Sunday, is central again as OM face Toulouse in the Coupe de France quarter-final on Wednesday at 21:00. Le Progres notes the tie could add further meaning to the club’s run-in.
Back in 2008, while at AC Milan’s academy, the Laval-born forward celebrated with tecktonik steps. At 36, he reprised them after striking a late winner against Lyon.
From Dijon and Saint-Étienne to Dortmund, Arsenal, Barcelona and Chelsea, he has scored wherever he has played. In his second spell at OM after 2023-2024, when he scored 30 goals, he has 12 in 30 this season. His brace on Sunday revived hopes across the city of reaching the Champions League.
Aubameyang said staying in the game and working hard eventually brings reward, adding he kept telling himself a goal would come and even thought a hat-trick might be possible. With less raw pace than in his peak years, he has adapted to remain decisive.
New head coach Habib Beye praised a leader’s display and the value of experience in seizing chances. On Tuesday he indicated he was unconcerned about another start, saying Aubameyang had shown he could maintain intensity for 95 minutes, and that victory aids recovery with medical staff preparing players to compete every three days.
Aubameyang should feature at least in part against Toulouse, a tie loaded with significance for Marseille. OM have not lifted a trophy since the 2012 Coupe de la Ligue, and with Paris Saint-Germain out in the last 16, they are among the favourites for the cup.
