Coventry City are close to selling one of their prized assets.
Coventry City defender Milan van Ewijk is closing in on a transfer to Bundesliga side VfL Wolfsburg.
Frank Lampard’s side have emerged as one of the Championship’s deadliest outfits during the opening rounds of the 2025/26 season, battering Derby County in a 5-3 victory before demolishing QPR en route to a 7-1 triumph.
However, the Sky Blues may have to venture into their next matches without one of their standout stars following recent developments.
Van Ewijk has continued his brilliant form from the past two seasons into the 2025/26 campaign, recording three assists in as many Championship games to start the campaign.
Lampard and Co. were obviously keen to keep the full-back within their ranks, shown by their willingness to continue utilising him despite constant links away this summer.
However, it looks like the Dutchman’s time in Coventry has now come to an end.
According to journalist Sacha Tavolieri via X on Monday, talks between the two clubs are now at an 'advanced stage', with negotiations now focussing on the deal’s final details.
The Bundesliga outfit are believed to be paying €10M + €2M (approx £10.3m in total) in bonuses for Van Ewijk, who will sign a four-year contract at the Volkswagen Arena.
It was previously stated by MailSport that Frank Lampard and Co. were hoping to sell the Dutchman for £15 million, but they seem to have softened their stance in order to get a deal done.
Van Ewijk exits the CBS Arena after two years, a time in which he was consistently one of the Sky Blues’ standout performers.
The 24-year-old has scored four goals in 103 games for Coventry, providing 12 assists in that time.
Prior to making a move to England, Van Ewijk operated out of Holland with sides such as SC Heerenveen and ADO Den Haag respectively.
A transfer away from Coventry City for Van Ewijk has been on the cards all summer, with the overwhelming amount of interest in his services ultimately telling.
The Sky Blues have made a huge profit on the 24-year-old, who they acquired in 2023 for £3.4 million, which allows them to reinvest in their squad during the final stages of the transfer window.
However, they have lost one of their best players as a result, which could prove to be a big blow for their promotion prospects over the remainder of the season, as he's no doubt established himself as one of, if not the best, players in his position in the Championship.
Lampard and Co. prepared for this eventuality by recruiting Aston Villa’s Kaine Kesler-Hayden earlier in the summer, who will likely now be promoted into the side’s starting XI.
