Cristiano Ronaldo could feature at the 2030 World Cup on home soil, with former Manchester United coach Rene Meulensteen saying, "I mean, health permitting." According to Goal.com, he added: "That's not too far!"
The record books will be rewritten this summer when he represents Portugal at FIFA's flagship event for the sixth time, having first stepped onto the stage in 2006.
Ronaldo has 226 caps and 143 goals, and he has lifted the European Championship and UEFA Nations League as captain. He has not yet won the World Cup, unlike Lionel Messi.
Roberto Martinez works with a star-studded Portugal squad that could become world champions on North American soil, completing a glittering medal collection for their iconic skipper. Portugal will co-host the 2030 finals with Spain and Morocco.
Essam El Hadary is the oldest to appear at a World Cup, playing for Egypt in 2018 at 45 years and 161 days, a mark Ronaldo may eye emulating.
"You look at him, he's 41, but obviously he's biologically probably early thirties. It's a bit of a case where the mind goes, the rest will follow. So there's no doubt about the fact that he looks after himself in the best possible way."
