Cristiano Ronaldo says he will not retire from football until he scores 1,000 career goals.

The 40-year-old is currently on 956 goals, having bagged a double in Al-Nassr’s 3-0 win against Al Akhdoud on Saturday.

Ronaldo previously revealed that the 2026 World Cup will be his last international tournament.

Speaking at the Globe Soccer Awards in Dubai on Sunday, the Portuguese said (via BBC Sport): “It’s hard to continue playing, but I am motivated.

“My passion is high, and I want to continue. It doesn’t matter where I play, whether in the Middle East or Europe. I always enjoy playing football, and I want to keep going.

“You know what my goal is. I want to win trophies, and I want to reach that number [1,000 goals] that you all know. I will reach the number for sure, if no injuries.”

The 40-year-old continues to defy age and expectations with his superb performances.

He is currently the joint top-scorer in the Saudi Pro League with 12 goals in 10 appearances this season.

Ronaldo has scored 112 goals in 125 matches for Al-Nassr across all competitions.

Despite his individual exploits, the Riyadh-based side have only won the 2023 Arab Club Champions Cup since his arrival.

However, Al-Nassr are in a brilliant position to lift the league trophy this season, as they are four points clear of their rivals after winning all 10 matches.

There was speculation regarding Ronaldo’s future in Saudi Arabia, as his contract was due to expire at the end of June. He ultimately signed a new two-year deal with the club.

Ronaldo holds the record for most goals for Real Madrid (450) and Portugal (143).

He also has the distinction of being the only player to have scored over 100 goals for Madrid, Manchester United, Juventus and Al-Nassr
