The tournament is almost certainly the 41-year-old’s final chance to become a champion of the world with the Seleção. Ronaldo will hope to fire Portugal to glory with plenty of goals along the way.

He will definitely aim to add to his career tally at the competition. Many sports bettors will be backing him to win the Golden Boot award, including those who are travelling to Mexico, the USA, and Canada.

Spanning three countries, the World Cup could take fans as far as Vancouver in British Columbia. Therefore, it’s important to check the availability of sports betting in BC or other regions to see what regulations are in place and what offers will be available to you.

But how do Ronaldo’s odds of winning the Golden Boot compare to other players playing at the tournament? Here’s a look at the latest odds.

Betting favourites for the 2026 World Cup Golden Boot

Despite Ronaldo’s incredible goalscoring statistics throughout his career, bookmakers don’t currently have Portugal’s talisman as the favourite to win the Golden Boot prize. Sportsbooks have France’s Kylian Mbappé and England’s Harry Kane as the two frontrunners.

Both men have claimed the individual honour before. Kane finished as top goalscorer at the 2018 World Cup in Russia, while Mbappé scored eight times in 2022 to clinch the prize.

Lionel Messi has the next best odds of finishing as the 2026 Golden Boot winner. Although he has never won the award, his seven strikes at the 2022 competition were a World Cup-best for the Argentine and a total only bettered by Mbappé.

Although it would be a shock to see Norway advance deep into the knockout stage, Erling Haaland could score goals at an alarming rate this summer. As a winner of two Premier League Golden Boot awards, the striker has the fourth-best odds of finishing as the top scorer at the tournament.

In fact, Lamine Yamal is seen as more of a contender for the Golden Boot prize than Ronaldo, due to Spain’s status as favourites for the trophy. Portugal’s captain is currently a slight underdog and shares similar odds with Ousmane Dembele and Nick Woltemade.

Ronaldo’s goal record at past World Cup tournaments

For Ronaldo to upset the odds and win his first World Cup Golden Boot, he will need to improve on his past record at the competition.

The 41-year-old has played at five World Cups during his legendary career, but has scored only once in four editions of the tournament.

In 2006, his only goal came from the penalty spot against Iran during the group stages. Four years later in South Africa, he once again only managed a single strike, which came in the 7-0 thrashing of North Korea.

The 2014 edition in Brazil also brought only one goal for Ronaldo, a close-range winner against Ghana in the group stages. But he experienced better fortunes in 2018, scoring four goals in as many appearances, including a hat-trick against Spain.

In 2022, Ronaldo endured a tough World Cup, scoring just once, again against Ghana, as Portugal were eliminated in the quarter-finals.

Nevertheless, having managed five goals in World Cup qualifying matches for 2026, his confidence will be high as Portugal travel to North America. The team will need Ronaldo at his best if they are to become champions for the first time ever.
