Leeds United are set to miss out on Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Jorgen Strand Larsen as Crystal Palace are close to reaching a verbal agreement to sign him, according to The Athletic.

Manager Daniel Farke wants additional attacking firepower, and Strand Larsen is open to moving to Elland Road.

However, the Whites do not plan to offer more than the £40 million bid Wolves have rejected, giving Palace an advantage.

The Eagles are offering £10m more than Leeds, with talks ongoing over an initial £45m and £5m in add-ons.

Wolves have yet to receive an official bid from Palace, but negotiations are advanced regarding the fee and personal terms for the Norwegian striker.

Strand Larsen is expected to replace Jean-Philippe Mateta, and Leeds will have to look elsewhere if they want attacking reinforcements before the winter transfer deadline on Monday.

Strand Larsen’s agent Tore Pedersen supports Leeds and wants him to join them, but Palace have met Wolves’ demands.

Farke could do with another proven goalscorer despite Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s form.

The 28-year-old has scored nine goals in 21 league games for the Whites, but his fitness was a constant source of concern while he was at Everton. Leeds need cover and quality competition for him.

Having missed out on Strand Larsen, Farke will hope his current attacking options will be enough to help the club retain their Premier League status at the end of the season.

Leeds are 16th in the league table after 23 games, six points above the relegation zone.
