Juventus have cooled their interest in Crystal Palace forward Jean-Philippe Mateta.
They are unwilling to meet Palace’s reported €40 million valuation and have started exploring a move for Fenerbahce striker Youssef En-Nesyri.
Juventus’ pursuit of Mateta never progressed to the bidding stage, despite the player being open to a move and personal terms presenting no obstacle.
The stumbling block has been the overall cost of the deal rather than suitability. Mateta is set to turn 29 in June and will have just one year remaining on his contract at Selhurst Park this summer.
Juventus believe that context makes Palace’s valuation unrealistic in the current market.
Additional transfer-related expenses, including a significant agent’s fee, have further weakened their appetite to proceed.
Attention has now turned towards En-Nesyri, who is more financially viable alternative.
Juventus are assessing the conditions of a potential deal as they seek a striker capable of making an immediate impact.
Palace’s stance on Mateta has been shaped by a period of upheaval behind the scenes.
The departure of club captain Marc Guehi and confirmation that manager Oliver Glasner will leave at the end of the season have contributed to instability.
Palace are reluctant to sanction another high-profile exit unless their valuation is met in full. Mateta remains a key figure within the squad and part of their short-term plans.
Juventus’ withdrawal reflects a broader effort to balance ambition with financial discipline.
With priorities shifting, the Turin club appear determined not to be drawn into deals they consider inflated.
Whether that approach leads them decisively towards En-Nesyri is expected to become clearer as the winter transfer window develops.
