According to NY Times, Crystal Palace are set to sign Oscar Mingueza on a free transfer.
The 27-year-old is a free agent after leaving Celta Vigo last month when his contract expired. He can operate in central defence or at full-back.
He is poised to become Palace’s first summer addition under new head coach Pierre Sage, appointed as Oliver Glasner’s replacement at Selhurst Park. If used at centre-back, he would join Maxence Lacroix, Chris Richards, Jaydee Canvot and Chadi Riad.
Former captain Marc Guehi left in January to join Manchester City. Lacroix is attracting interest from Chelsea, who have made the France international one of their main targets.
Mingueza made 47 appearances for Celta last season, featuring mainly at full-back. He helped them finish sixth in La Liga and qualify for the Europa League for the second successive year.
A Barcelona academy graduate, he debuted for the first team in November 2020 and became a regular that season with 39 outings. His tally dropped to 27 in 2021-22, with nine league starts, before he joined Celta in July 2022.
He played 147 times for Celta, scoring seven goals and supplying 15 assists. Capped four times by Spain, Mingueza started the Nations League final against Portugal last year, but was not selected in Luis de la Fuente’s 26-man squad for this summer’s World Cup.
