Crystal Palace are leading the race to sign Bayern Munich defender Sacha Boey in the January transfer window.

The Eagles are expected to be very busy in the January window, and adding wide forwards and right wing-backs are their top priorities.

Oliver Glasner feels that Palace should look to increase competition for Daniel Munoz at right wing-back, and Boey has emerged as an option.

Will Boey leave Bayern Munich?

Munoz is currently sidelined with a knee injury that requires surgery.

Former Liverpool defender Nathaniel Clyne, 34, is his understudy, and he is out of contract in the summer.

Boey is indeed facing an uncertain future at Bayern.

The 25-year-old has struggled for game time since the 2-2 draw against Mainz 05, raising doubts over his importance to the side.

Boey has made five starts in the Bundesliga, and a further four appearances have come from the bench, and has not started a game since Bayern’s 3-0 win over Borussia Monchengladbach in October.

“He costs a lot of money and he’s not playing very much at the moment. Sacha Boey had a brief period where he was enjoying minutes. He cost €30m [£26.2m] when FC Bayern bought him from Galatasaray, and of course, Bayern wants a bit of money back.

“This is the problem. €10m-15m would be the price, but Crystal Palace aren’t prepared to pay this in the winter. So, it could be that this deal will collapse. Nonetheless, there are talks between the clubs.

“The head coach, Oliver Glasner, and the sporting director of Bayern, Christoph Freund, are very close, both Austrian, both having done their schooling at the RB empire. Both worked at Salzburg. They are talking. It remains to be seen if it will all work out. Also because Vincent Kompany wants to keep every player he can.”

Falk has confirmed to CFBayern that Crystal Palace remain leading the race for Boey, and that Bayern could look to offload him.

Bayern Munich have enough cover at right back

Following the return of Alphonso Davies and Hiroki Ito from long-term injuries, Vincent Kompany has loads of options in defence.

Bayern will take care of Davies’s workload, while Tom Bischof has proved to be a reliable player at left-back, although he is best used as a central midfielder.

It also means Josip Stanisic and Konrad Laimer can play in their natural positions, and Kompany will not have to change their positions anymore.

In that case, Boey will become surplus to requirements at Bayern. Bayern have previously signed Michael Olise from Crystal Palace, and they have a good relationship with the club; a possible transfer cannot be ruled out.
