Crystal Palace have submitted an official £15 million bid for Manchester City defender Manuel Akanji as the transfer deadline approaches.
The Eagles are looking to strengthen their backline and view Akanji as a potential replacement for captain Marc Guehi, whose future remains uncertain.
Palace have included performance-related bonuses in their offer, which matches City’s valuation of the Switzerland international.
Akanji, 30, has been a regular under Pep Guardiola since joining from Borussia Dortmund in 2022.
He has made 136 appearances for City, scoring five goals and providing three assists in that time.
Last season, he featured 40 times across all competitions, registering two assists in a campaign where City finished third.
During his three years in Manchester, Akanji has lifted two Premier League titles and the FA Cup.
However, competition for places at the Etihad has intensified, and City are prepared to sanction his departure if the right deal is reached.
The Swiss defender has two years left on his contract, but his future has been one of the main talking points of the final week of the transfer window.
Galatasaray were the first to meet City’s asking price earlier this month, though the player has yet to decide his next move.
Interest from abroad remains active, but Palace’s approach brings a new Premier League option into consideration.
Oliver Glasner’s side have already lost star forward Eberechi Eze to Arsenal in a £67.5m deal.
They are also bracing themselves for the possible sale of Guehi, who is wanted by Liverpool, Tottenham and Barcelona.
Guehi has less than two years left on his current contract and has so far resisted efforts to extend his deal.
Palace chairman Steve Parish has admitted the defender could be sold if no agreement is reached.
The Eagles have made only two additions this summer, with goalkeeper Walter Benitez and full-back Borna Sosa arriving earlier in the window.
Glasner is keen to add further quality before the deadline, with Akanji seen as a major target.
For City, the potential departure adds to uncertainty around other players, including Ederson and Ilkay Gundogan.
Losing Akanji could prompt the champions to review their defensive depth, though Guardiola may rely on Josko Gvardiol, Nathan Ake and Abdukodir Khusanov instead of entering the market.
The final days of the window will determine whether Akanji chooses Selhurst Park or explores opportunities abroad.
