Eagles sweating over the fitness of two key players ahead of huge European night

Crystal Palace are preparing for their first ever European showpiece as they take on Rayo Vallecano in the Conference League final on Wednesday.

The Eagles are hoping to provide the perfect send-off for manager Oliver Glasner, in what will be his final game in charge of the club.

Palace are the bookies' favourites to beat Spanish counterparts Rayo Vallecano, and lift their third trophy in 12 months.

After winning the FA Cup and Community Shield last season, Palace are determined to add yet another trophy to their cabinet, and their full focus has been on their preparations for their biggest ever European night.

Glasner rotated heavily for Palace’s final game of the Premier League season, making five changes for the visit of Arsenal three days before the final, and he will be hoping to have a near fully-fit squad available against Rayo Vallecano.

Adam Wharton trained on Tuesday afternoon

PA

Palace are sweating over the fitness of centre-back Chris Richards and key midfielder Adam Wharton.

Richards did not train last week after suffering an ankle injury during their 2-2 draw with Brentford, but was able to join his team-mates in drills on the eve of the final.

Midfielder Wharton is also a doubt, having had to come off with a sore ankle following a coming together with Arsenal’s Myles Lewis-Skelly. He, too, was able to train on Tuesday.

Glasner has since confirmed that both are fit and available for selection, but it remains to be seen whether either will be fit to start.

There are also concerns around left-back Borna Sosa, who, despite training last week, was left out of Palace’s matchday squad for the sixth game running against Arsenal.

Injured: Doucoure, Nketiah
