Abella spent more than three and a half years on West Brom’s staff after arriving at the end of 2022, early in Carlos Corberan’s reign. A former Barcelona academy graduate and player, the Catalan had worked at Watford before taking on a statistical analyst role at The Hawthorns with responsibilities including set-pieces.

He stayed on after Corberan’s exit in December 2024, remaining for another 18 months under Tony Mowbray, Ryan Mason and Eric Ramsay, as well as during James Morrison’s caretaker spell. He departed this summer having also attained the UEFA A Licence, the highest available.

Grosso, a 2006 World Cup winner with Italy, scored the semi-final winner and the decisive penalty in the final against France. He was appointed by Fiorentina this summer after previous spells in charge of Sassuolo and Lyon. The Tuscany club are two-time Serie A champions but finished 15th last season.
