Manchester United reached another low ebb this weekend after a comprehensive 3-0 defeat at Manchester City.

Ruben Amorim’s side were well beaten by their fierce rivals at the Etihad to pile the pressure on the Portuguese coach. Amorim’s arrival as manager last November has failed to inspire the improvement hoped.

The 40-year-old has overseen Manchester United’s worst start to a Premier League campaign since 1992/93, after taking just four points from the club’s opening four fixtures.

It follows a dreadful campaign last term, in which the Red Devils slumped to a 15th-place finish, the club’s lowest since last being relegated from the top flight in 1974.

Amorim has faced criticism for his failure to adapt to the squad he inherited, with Manchester United continuing to look vulnerable in his favoured 3-4-2-1 system.

The stats make for grim reading, with Opta revealing that Manchester United are the worst-performing team in the Premier League since Amorim’s appointment.

United have taken just 31 points from their 31 league games under the former Sporting Lisbon coach, fewer than any ever-present top-flight team in that period.
