Daniel Farke has named an unchanged Leeds United XI to face title-chasing Manchester City this evening at Elland Road, with James Justin again at centre-back and Jaka Bijol among the substitutes. The visitors are without Leeds-born Erling Haaland, who is not in the matchday squad.
According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, Haaland is not fully fit and Rayan Cherki comes in as Pep Guardiola’s only change, while Jeremy Doku returns to the bench.
Farke said on Thursday that left back Gabi Gudmundsson had recovered from the illness that forced his withdrawal at half-time of last weekend’s 1-1 draw at Aston Villa. After a free week, the Swede starts again.
At Villa, Bijol was on the bench as Justin partnered Joe Rodon and Pascal Struijk in a back three. Bijol replaced Gudmundsson at the break, Justin shifted to left back, and Lukas Nmecha and Sean Longstaff later came on for Brenden Aaronson and Anton Stach.
With Gudmundsson available, Farke reported that Noah Okafor is Leeds’ only injury concern. The Swiss winger sustained a hamstring issue late in the FA Cup tie at Birmingham City and is expected to be out for two to four weeks.
Leeds United: Darlow, Bogle, Justin, Rodon, Struijk, Gudmundsson, Ampadu, Gruev, Stach, Aaronson, Calvert-Lewin. Subs: Perri, Bornauw, Bijol, Longstaff, Tanaka, James, Gnonto, Nmecha, Piroe.
Manchester City: Donnarumma, Nunes, Dias, Guéhi, Ait-Nouri, Rodri, Bernardo (C), O’Reilly, Semenyo, Cherki, Marmoush. Subs: Trafford, Reijnders, Stones, Ake, Doku, Nico, Savinho, Khusanov, Foden.
