Leeds boss Daniel Farke would not be drawn on the club’s links to Facundo Buonanotte – but admits they are in the market for a creative attacking player.
Buonanotte is currently on loan at Chelsea from Brighton, but has struggled for game time at the Blues.
Leeds are keen to sign the Brighton attacking midfielder but on those reports, Farke said: “We are looking at if there is a possibility to strengthen our squad in January, but you can only speak about things when everything is official and signed and you can confirm anything.
“In terms of incomings or outgoings, I can’t confirm anything apart from yesterday, the loan of Harry Gray (to Rotherham). But apart from this, nothing to speak about.
“We were quite open in the summer about wanting to do a bit more in the offensive area, creative number 10 or winger positions. In the last days we missed out.
“Nevertheless, we have developed really well as a group and we’re on a good path.
“We have a good, capable group and we will just do something if we think the player improves our squad and is a top character who fits into this group because we won’t risk anything about our spirit and togetherness because this is our major skill as well.”
Expanding on Leeds’ need for more attacking quality, Farke said: “Every player who has top quality and also top character who could help us is important for us.
“We are a bit thin in terms of creative offensive players, a bit like the winger, number ten position. We spoke about this for a little while.
“We have of course changed the set-up a little bit but I would also label it as a rumour that we have only recently played 3-5-2 because more often we have played in a 3-4-3 with one proper striker, it’s not like we play with two target men all the time.
“Even in this set-up, you need players who can make things happen, who can play a creative pass, who can create chances and deliver end product and goals.
“If you find a specialist in such a position who brings something we don’t have to the squad, it’s definitely beneficial but it doesn’t mean that a new signing comes in and has, straight away, a position guaranteed or a player who has done really well will lose his position.
“It will just be good for competition if we can add some quality but we will just do this if we are 100% convinced it helps us as a group.”
Meanwhile, Chelsea boss Liam Rosenior has admitted that Buonanotte’s loan could be cut short.
“I felt in terms of the games and the minutes he’s had, it’s not quite what he wants,” the Chelsea boss said.
“So we’re looking into the best solution for him. I’m in constant communication with the sporting directors and the ownership about potential transfers that could be good for us, both coming in and coming out.
“But I said to them when I first came in, I want to look at this group. I want to assess this group because you get good surprises. And if something is right for us in any position, that’s going to help the team and the club, we’ll look at it.”
