Lazio and Atalanta are finalising a deal for Daniel Maldini, who should become the club’s third January signing.

The 24-year-old has long been on Angelo Fabiani’s shortlist. The sporting director prefers him to the ageing Lorenzo Insigne, whom Maurizio Sarri initially wanted as Mattia Zaccagni’s understudy.

After the pursuit cooled in recent weeks, Lazio renewed their push over the weekend. Fabrizio Romano reports the agreement is almost done.

Gianluca Di Marzio adds that it is a loan until the end of the season for €one million, with an option to buy for €13-14 million that could become an obligation under certain conditions.

Sky Sport Italia says the clubs aim to reach a full agreement in the coming hours, and the player could arrive in Rome as early as Monday. If so, Maldini should be available to Sarri for Friday’s Serie A meeting with Genoa at the Stadio Olimpico.

Maldini came through AC Milan’s academy, had loans at Spezia and Empoli, then joined Monza in January 2024. He impressed for the Biancorossi before moving to Atalanta, but limited minutes in Bergamo have left him seeking a fresh start.
