He is likely to feature against Belgium and Israel in the next few games and the Monza man spoke to the press about his experience with the Azurri so far, reflecting on his journey till here as well.

He said, as relayed by La Gazzetta dello Sport: “It’s a source of pride to be here. Now I hope to show good things to the coach. My family has always been close to me, but, I assure you, with dad we haven’t spoken about the call-up. Venezuela had also contacted me in the past but I always preferred to wait and make the right choice, I think it was worth it.”

The ex-Rossoneri player further spoke about his family’s legacy in the game and said: “It’s a nice feeling to see photos of grandpa and dad at Coverciano, but I’m focused on the retreat and I live day by day. The call came at the perfect time, I feel good on the pitch, with the team. I hope to give a hand to everyone.”

“Family is a positive thing, but also a negative thing. Over time you start to understand a few things, whatever the opinion of others, you have to continue on your path with the goal you have in mind. The dream of the national team wasn’t just mine, but of all the boys who play.”

Niccolo Pissili has also been called up to the side and Spalletti has made it clear that he wants to test out both the players and see what the future holds for them in the side.
