Vitão could be fast-tracked for his Flamengo debut, with Danilo nursing a knee problem and Léo Ortiz managed carefully after an ankle issue, according to Globo.com.

The centre-back, the club's first signing of 2026, met his new team-mates and head coach Filipe Luís on Monday as pre-season began. Presented last week, he acknowledged the fierce competition and the need for patience.

After playing through pain late last year, Danilo is set for a separate pre-season. The expectation is that he will only be available to Filipe Luís for the Supercopa against Corinthians in February. Ortiz has been pain free but remains monitored and, depending on pitch quality, might be rested.

Vitão reported in strong shape and drew praise from head of medical Dr Fernando Sassaki. The defender underwent routine imaging in Rio, including MRI scans of spine, knee, hip and ankle, assessed by a radiologist then paired with a physical before the deal. Internacional’s doctor also provided positive references, describing him as proactive and dedicated.

Flamengo face Bangu on Wednesday at Moça Bonita, then Volta Redonda on Saturday at the Raulino de Oliveira. The under-20s will continue to represent the club in those two matches. The plan is to start integrating senior players from the derby with Vasco on the 21st.
