Daryl Dike has thanked West Bromwich Albion supporters after leaving the club at the end of his contract on 30 June, bringing an injury-hit four and a half years at The Hawthorns to a close. The United States striker is now a free agent seeking a fresh start this summer.
The player said in a post that representing Albion was a privilege, that he never felt alone as fans stood by him through repeated setbacks, that the club became like family, and that he departs with pride, gratitude and no regrets while wishing everyone success.
Signed from Orlando City for £seven million in January 2022, Dike made 66 appearances for Albion, only 25 of them starts, amid at least five major injuries, including two ruptured Achilles tendons. He turned 26 last month.
One defining image of his spell was being carried off in tears on a medical cart at Ipswich’s Portman Road, a moment that underlined the toll of his struggles and the desire among fans to see him thrive.
Dike scored 11 goals for Albion, including two towards the end of last season to help James Morrison’s men secure survival.
