Everton manager David Moyes has name checked Celtic when discussing Virgil Van Dijk’s contract extension at Liverpool. The 34-year-old agreed a deal to remain at Anfield until at least the summer of 2027.
Speaking at a media conference ahead of Everton’s game against Manchester City, Moyes offered a cheeky response to the fairly obvious question.
Moyes subtly mocked the question, suggesting it would be a bad signing before crediting the impressive defender for his displays with Celtic and Liverpool.
Van Dijk will collect the Premier League title at the end of the current campaign having already completed a clean sweep of honours in England. The Dutch defender became a key figure in the Celtic backline across two seasons before leaving for the Premier League for just £12m. Southampton continued the player’s development before selling him for £75m but there were some concerns that Celtic had undervalued the Rolls Royce defender.
Moyesy, meanwhile, has revitalised Everton following his return to Goodison. The Scottish manager has ensured that there will be no relegation in the final campaign at the famous old ground.
