Bayern Munich defender Dayot Upamecano has emphatically shut down the intense speculation surrounding Michael Olise’s future, delivering a defiant message to the assembled media regarding Real Madrid’s aggressive pursuit of his teammate.
The defender’s comments came in the mixed zone following France’s gritty 1-0 victory over Paraguay in the World Cup Round of 16, where he directly addressed the constant rumours surrounding the 24-year-old winger’s future.
When asked by Sky Sport Germany’s Kerry Hau about the potential transfer of Olise to Real Madrid this summer, Upamecano broke into a knowing smile before leaning into the microphone to declare twice: “He’s staying, he’s staying!”
The statement serves as a direct rebuttal to the narrative being built in the Spanish capital, where club president Florentino Perez has identified Olise as his next great ‘Galactico.’

The interest from the Santiago Bernabeu is far from casual. Perez views the 24-year-old winger as the final piece of a devastating attacking puzzle, envisioning him on the right flank opposite Vinicius Jr. and Kylian Mbappe.
Reports indicate that Real Madrid have been preparing a club-record bid in excess of €200 million to test Bayern Munich’s resolve.
In fact, it has even been reported in Spanish media that Olise is attracted by the idea of playing for Los Blancos, although he will not force Bayern Munich to sell.
However, Upamecano’s confident intervention reflects the unwavering stance of the Bayern Munich board regarding Olise’s future.

Having only signed the winger from Crystal Palace in 2024, the German giants consider the playmaker untouchable’ and central to their long-term plans.
In fact, they are already working on a new contract renewal for the 24-year-old, with the aim of nearly doubling his salary in order to stave off interest from Real Madrid.
Olise’s form at the 2026 World Cup has only heightened his value; he has been a revelation for Les Bleus, racking up 5 assists in just 5 games and pulling the strings creatively throughout the tournament.
While Real Madrid famously rarely take no for an answer, Upamecano’s public assurance suggests the Bayern dressing room is calm.
