Spurs are winless in the Premier League in 13 games and just a point above the relegation places. Their ever-present status in the Premier League era is under real threat, as the club battle against a first top-flight relegation since 1977.

De Zerbi has called the challenge the biggest of his career but said he has full belief in the squad's ability to survive.

He reassured the supporters that he plans to be at Tottenham for the long term, even if the club are condemned to the Championship.

“I think we have the right qualities to come out from this moment. I believe in the players," he toldtottenhamhotspur.com.

"I think we have to remember who we are and who the players are, because we have very big players and we have to work on their confidence and the qualities of them. They have to show what they are and what they are used to playing.

"I accepted this challenge because I have great confidence in the players. The style and history of Tottenham is a very clear type of play.

"After this part of the season, I think we can create a great future. I signed a five-year contract because it is a big challenge.

"I will be the Tottenham coach next season, no matter what."
