One made his first senior appearance for Germany, the other registered his first goal for Belgium. A round-up of all Thursday’s internationals involving Eintracht players.
After 10 consecutive appearances with the federal eagle on his chest for the German U21 side, Nnamdi Collins’ big moment came on Thursday night in Bratislava as he made his debut for the senior team. The 21-year-old started at right-back against Slovakia – a happy occasion for the Frankfurt man, but not a happy outcome for him and his team-mates. Germany slipped to a 2-0 defeat in their opening World Cup qualifier, with Collins coming off at half-time and Robin Koch not featuring.
Maiden goal for Theate
It was a more successful evening for Türkiye and Belgium in qualifying for the 2026 World Cup. The Red Devils eased to a 6-0 away win against Liechtenstein, with Arthur Theate scoring the third goal and winning the penalty for the fifth. It was the 25-year-old’s first strike for the Belgian senior team. Eintracht striker Michy Batshuayi was an unused substitute, while Can Uzun was also not involved as Türkiye won 3-2 in Georgia.
Meanwhile, the African section of World Cup qualifying is at a more advanced stage and after seven rounds of matches, an Algeria side featuring Frankfurt’s Farès Chaibi hold a commanding lead at the top of Group G. The 3-1 win over Botswana, in which Chaibi was a late substitute, was their sixth victory in the current qualifying campaign.
Finally, the Danish U21 team, led onto the field by captain Oscar Højlund, played a friendly against Scandinavian rivals Norway, who claimed a narrow 1-0 win.
