Debutants San Diego FC seal qualification to Champions Cup Round of 16

MEXICO CITY – The 2026 Concacaf Champions Cup continued with Pumas UNAM earning a 1-nil win over San Diego FC in the Second Leg of their Round One series, as the latter won the series 4-2 on aggregate on Tuesday at Estadio Olímpico Universitario in Mexico City, Mexico.
San Diego FC goalkeeper Pablo Sisniega kicked off a standout display in goal with a save in the 12’ to block an attempt from Uriel Antuna from the right side of the box.
Amahl Pellegrino nearly found the opener for San Diego right after in the 13’, but his right-footed finish from the center of the box bounced off the right post.
Pellegrino once again had a good look for the MLS side in the 36’, with an attempt from a difficult angle on the left side of the box being tipped by Puma’s goalkeeper Keylor Navas, before hitting the right post.
Pedro Vite scored from a free kick for the breakthrough goal for Pumas in the 47’, as the Liga MX club shortened the deficit on aggregate.
Sisniega delivered several crucial interventions throughout the remainder of the match to preserve the MLS side’s advantage. In all, the San Diego goalkeeper contributed with an impressive eight saves to help the tournament debutants win its Round One series.
San Diego FC will face Liga MX champions Toluca in the Round of 16 in March.
