The three points escaped in Montilivi despite going ahead on the scoreboard and not having gone behind in the entire match until the final minutes. The team did not find their best version, but they were quite accurate at the back to deny Sevilla clear options and made the most of Arnau's goal from a set piece for many minutes, which was not enough to score. Another goal of the Andalusians on the last whistle has given them the victory in a disputed match and that Girona has not stopped fighting until the end, with some dangerous arrivals in the added time that they have not been able to culminate.
The Argentine goalkeeper was key in the second minute of the match to save a penalty that would have put the game very much in the visitors' favor. Oriol Romeu committed the infraction inside the area and Gazzaniga stretched to his left side, guessing Isaac Romero's intentions. His intervention was also fundamental to deflect a free shot from Rubén Vargas, and a few minutes later, between him and the crossbar, the danger was once again averted in front of a very determined and demanding Sevilla.
The current captain capitalized on Tsygankov's side-footed cross to head the ball into the back of the net. Jumping more than the rest, he took advantage of the strategy to take the lead and turn the first half in the home side's favour. It was Arnau's second goal this season, after also scoring in the victory against Leganés. His goal, however, ended up fading in a second half in which Sevilla pushed for a comeback.
Saúl tied the match in the first part of the second half. In a corner served to the far post he shot twice, and the second time he sent the ball into the back of the net. The visitors' top scorer, Lukebakio, made a very good move with two minutes to go, getting rid of Krejci with a self-pass and crossing the ball in front of Gazzaniga to score his second. Stuani had two chances in stoppage time to restore parity, but the scoreboard remained unchanged.
