Dennis Cirkin has shared hospital photos after undergoing surgery on a long-term wrist problem.
The Sunderland defender posted a picture from a hospital bed with his arm in a sling, plus another image appearing to show metalwork removed during the procedure. He said in a post, "Metal out, on the mend #wristtape4life."
Cirkin was named on the bench against Chelsea on the final day at the Stadium of Light. The issue has persisted since last season in the Championship, when he wore protection on his wrist for an extended spell.
Injuries restricted the 24-year-old to just eight Premier League appearances as Sunderland finished seventh, sealing a Europa League place and their first European campaign since 1973-74.
Cirkin remains a fans’ favourite after helping the club climb from League One to the Premier League. He joined from Tottenham Hotspur in 2021 and was part of the team that won promotion under Alex Neil.
His future this summer is uncertain, with his contract situation one to watch as Sunderland prepare for Premier League and Europa League commitments.
