The National Women's Soccer League has cemented its place in the record books after new outfit Denver Summit made history during their inaugural home match.
A 0-0 draw against the Washington Spirit was not enough to sour the mood in the Mile High City this afternoon, after over 63,000 fans turned up to pack out Empower Field.
Over 63,000 fans packed the house for Denver Summit's home opener, a new NWSL attendance record 👏🏟️–
Not only did this clock in as the new attendance record for the NWSL, but it became the largest attendance ever recorded in the United States for a women's professional sporting event.
A sign of the continued growth and popularity of the women's game stateside, Colorado's status as a hotbed for football in the US was also on display among the capacity crowd.
The Summit have begun life as the league's newest franchise with a solid start out of the blocks, with today's draw seeing them sit mid-table with a 1-2-1 record and German forward Melissa Kössler already among the league's top goalscorers, with three strikes so far this season.
