An insight into the plans of the coaching staff at La Liga Barcelona for midfielder Gavi for this weekend’s derby meeting with Espanyol has on Wednesday been provided.

The info comes courtesy of Diario Sport, and points towards Hansi Flick and co. preparing to ramp up the youngster’s minutes.

Gavi, for his part, has of course spent the last couple of weeks working his way towards full fitness.

After a year on the sidelines owing to an ACL tear, the 20-year-old has featured off the bench in each of Barcelona’s last three outings, against Sevilla, Bayern Munich, and Real Madrid.

As much, though, has given rise to a total of just 16 minutes of playing time.

As per the aforementioned Sport, the plan of boss Hansi Flick and his staff is therefore to hand Gavi a more prominent role this weekend.

The Blaugrana are set to mark their return to action on Sunday evening, in the latest edition of the Derbi Barceloní against Espanyol.

And Gavi is expected to be pencilled in for 20-25 minutes of playing time, during the 2nd-half at Montjuïc.
