DFB referee spokesperson Alex Feuerherdt has pushed back at Uli Hoeneß’s attack on the officiating and addressed the fallout from Luis Díaz’s dismissal.

Bayern drew 1-1 with Bayer Leverkusen on Saturday, with Díaz sent off in the second half. Supervisory board member Hoeneß blasted referee Christian Dingert and his team, calling it the worst he has seen in a Bundesliga match. “Perhaps his opinion was influenced by the fact that the majority of these match-relevant decisions went against FC Bayern. But we are by no means talking about scandalous mistakes here,” he told Abendzeitung.

After reviewing the incident, Dingert admitted Díaz should not have received a second yellow card.

Feuerherdt then set out how such decisions are handled.

“The yellow-red card was a factual decision by the referee. Such factual decisions are generally final; therefore, except in the case of serious errors – such as confusing one player for another – the suspension usually stands,” Feuerherdt said.
